4th @ Eastern Region Under 15s Team Championship.

For our Cadets first ever competition, this was a very ambitious one to attempt. But with no Essex competitions this year, we thought we’d try this one regardless. As it turned out we weren’t completely out of our depth.

Lost 30-44 v. Newham
Their strong combination of Amol Rattan and Kalo Danchev had us behind early on. But both Sam and Chris won against their weak fencer, not forgetting Liam who scored our highest points tally. But the deficit did prove too much for us in the end.

Lost 42-45 v. Camden
After only 6 months at Estuary, Jack came on for this match, and had two exciting fights scoring a total of 7 points for us. Billy Burton was Camdens’ star fencer. He kept putting them ahead, only for Chris and Sam to pull us back against their other two. We were 2 points ahead going into the last fight, but that didn’t prove enough against Billy Burton who snatched victory from us.

Lost 9-45 v. Brentwood
Brentwood had a star-studded team featuring last years’ Under14 Welsh Champion Glen Ostacchini, plus Alex Tai and Hee Ah Cho – all amongst the best in the country in their age group. Predictably, they pasted everyone including us, and Liam had to retire hurt in the middle of the match. But we can take comfort that Liam, Sam and Chris managed to score a couple of points each against Glen Ostacchini in particular.
